Tottenham handed massive boost by long-time absentee – report
By Aramide Oladipo
Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama could return to first-team action when Spurs face Liverpool in the Premier League, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the 26-year-old is looking to make himself available when the North London club welcome the Reds to Wembley Stadium on 22 October.
The newspaper reports that the midfielder had initially planned to return for the upcoming Champions League tie against holders Real Madrid next week but he was informed to rest as a precaution.
The Kenyan suffered a knee injury in pre-season and he aggravated the problem even further after featuring in the first two Premier League games of the new campaign.
Wanyama’s return is a massive boost for Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino as it gives him another option in the middle of the park.
The midfielder enjoyed a fine debut campaign at White Hart Lane last season, making a total of 47 appearances and contributing with five goals and one assist in all competitions.
The Kenya international formed a great partnership with Eric Dier in the midfield, helping Spurs to a second-placed finish – their first in Premier League history.
Wanyama will not only help Spurs mount another title challenge, he will also improve their chances of progressing further in the Champions League this season.
