Report: Tottenham receive £8m bid for 23-year-old, response is emphatic
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham have turned down an £8million bid for defender Ben Davies from Crystal Palace, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Spurs have rejected the £8m bid from Palace for the 23-year-old and have done so in emphatic style.
The report details that manager Mauricio Pochettino blocked the move for Davies and had the backing of the club’s chairman Daniel Levy.
Davies has been an important member of the Spurs squad since he moved to the north London club in 2014 from Swansea.
The Welshman is currently behind team-mate Danny Rose in the pecking order for the left-back position, but he can also be deployed at centre-back.
He has made 13 appearances this season across all competitions and featured seven times in the Premier League.
Football Insider verdict:
Spurs have done the right thing by rejecting a move for Davies as he is an important member of the squad. The Wales international can be used in either the centre-back or left-back position, which is particularly useful in Pochettino’s 3-5-2 formation. He has proved his qualities during his time at White Hart Lane and stepped into the first-team very well when given the chance. Davies may now get a chance to cement a place in the starting XI as Kevin Wimmer endured a difficult match against Manchester City. A centre-back role has become available while Jan Vertonghen misses out for two months with an ankle injury, so Davies can certainly overtake Wimmer in the pecking order and play a big role in Spurs’ title hunt.
