Report: This is where West Ham must finish for Bilic to earn new deal
By Amir Mir
West Ham are ready to offer Slaven Bilic a new contract at the end of the season – but on one condion, according to a report.
The Sun claim that the Hammers boss will be offered a fresh deal if he can guide the London-based club to a top-eight finish at the end of the current Premier League campaign.
It is said that Bilic was close to being axed before Christmas after a shocking run of results but he will be offered a fresh contract should they have a good end to the season.
Bilic’s side started the campaign in disappointing fashion as they found themselves flirting with relegation during the early part of the season.
Furthermore, they have suffered some heavy defeats this term, mainly at their new stadium, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City scoring five goals apiece during their visits.
The report also claims that a London source said: “There’s nothing we want more than for Slaven to go onto his third year with us but we really do need to start seeing some decent performances.
“There have been some scrappy wins and we need to see some good football and stuff to please the fans. That’s important.
“Then we can go into next season free of any source of anxiety and think about another contract at the end of this one as has always been the case at this club. That was what we wanted to see and it was great to watch.”
Bilic has 18 months remaining on his current deal and the club’s senior figure has turned things around in recent weeks.
The Irons have won three of their last four league matches, scoring nine goals, but they did suffer a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City during those encounters.
At this moment in time, they are ninth in the league table on 31 points from 24 games, five points behind eighth-placed West Brom.
However, five points also separate Bilic’s side and 14th-placed Bournemouth who have recorded 26 points from their set of matches.
In other West Ham news, this duo are to be monitored by Gareth Southgate during the West Brom clash.
