Reports: Celtic braced for mega deadline day offer, sum £10m short of valuation
By Dominic Toner
Celtic are braced for a move for their striker Moussa Dembele as Chelsea weigh up a deadline day move, according to a report.
The Guardian claim that the Premier League giants are considering a formal bid of £30million on Tuesday or they could defer their interest until the summer.
The report details that the Bhoys are not anticipating losing the 20-year-old, but Chelsea are set to test their resolve with an offer.
Sky Sports reported on Monday that it would take bids of £40million for Celtic to listen to offers for Dembele, but it appears Chelsea are considering a move £10million short of that valuation.
Dembele has been a revelation in Scotland since his £500,000 move in the summer from Fulham.
The young forward has scored an impressive 20 goals in just 38 games across all competitions and has been a standout player for manager Brendan Rodgers.
He has represented France at Under-21s level and is being tipped to become a European superstar.
Football Insider verdict:
Dembele has become an integral part of the squad and has even managed to dislodge Leigh Griffiths as the first-choice striker for the most-part. The Frenchman is clearly destined for the top and could play for any European elite club in the future, but that does not mean they need to sell him in January. Celtic’s £40million valuation seems fair as the 20-year-old still has so much time to develop. They are chasing a domestic treble this season and are no pressure to sell the rising star on deadline day. The Bhoys should at least wait until the summer before considering cashing in on the striker.
