‘Very awkward game’ – Rodgers makes admission about Celtic win v Partick

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed his team’s mentality overcoming setbacks ahead of the top of the table clash against Aberdeen.

The Hoops saw their 69 match British record unbeaten domestic run come to a crashing halt in the 4-0 defeat to Hearts last Sunday, but the Bhoys managed to respond by defeating Partick Thistle 2-0 in midweek, a game which Rodgers admits could have been very awkward.

However the team’s “very good” response to their first domestic loss since May 2016 pleased the Hoops boss no end.

“As a man and as a team, how do you respond and get up from it?”, he begun, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“The players did that on Wednesday. What could have been a very awkward game for us against a stubborn opponent who drew 1-1 with us at home last season went well.

“What was important for our mentality was keeping our clean sheet again. It was a very good response.”

The Hoops go into the match against Aberdeen five points clear of the team currently in second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

A victory for the Bhoys would see them go into a commanding eight point lead, whilst a win for the Dons would see the gap at the top of the table narrow to only two points.

The first match between the sides this season saw the Hoops cruise to a comfortable 3-0 win over the Dons at Pittodrie in October, thanks to a Moussa Dembele double and a Kieran Tierney wonder goal.

The Aberdeen match is the first of three in a week for the Bhoys, with a trip to Dundee on Boxing Day on the horizon before a Glasgow derby against Rangers at Celtic Park which is the last game before the January winter break.

In other Celtic news, reports claim that Liam Henderson could move to Italy in January.
