So what if returning Rangers midfielder is a fan? He is not the answer to Ibrox problems

COMMENT
Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is set to return to the Ibrox giants before the end of the week after his negotiations between the Gers and Azerbaijani side Gabala to bring his season-long loan to an end.
Halliday was bombed out by Pedro Caixinha after a series of woeful displays in the second-half of last season before failing to make any impact in Azerbaijan whatsoever.
Now, the Scottish Sun report that he’s set for an unlikely Ibrox reunion.
The 26-year-old joined the Gers in 2015 and much was made of the fact he grew up in the shadow of Ibrox and is a lifelong supporter of the club.
Halliday was an important part of the side which romped to the Scottish Championship title but looked out of his depth in the Premiership and six months of sitting on the bench in Azerbaijan isn’t likely to have changed that.
Like Halliday, there are hundreds of thousands of people – maybe even millions – who are lifelong fans but it doesn’t mean they are the answer to the club’s on-field problems.
Since leaving in the summer, Halliday appears to have undergone a remarkable transition from bog average Scottish midfielder to a player Rangers can’t be without.
Unless we’ve missed something, though, watching from the sidelines in a league arguably worse than Scotland’s is hardly going to turn him into a superstar.
Fans aren’t happy with the news and you can understand why.
