Revealed: Aston Villa at risk of £30m+ blow – Man City could rescue them

Aston Villa may now miss out on a £30million payment if they don’t qualify for the Champions League, Football Insider can reveal.

Unai Emery’s side have dropped down to fifth in the Premier League table following their defeat to Manchester United last Sunday (11 February).

Villa now sit outside the traditional four qualifying spots for Champions League football, but results in Europe could hand them a lifeline.

As revealed by Football Insider in December, Aston Villa will earn over £30million if they qualify for the Champions League.

Under the new Champions League format, two European leagues are set to be handed an additional qualifying spot based on their performance this season.

Because of results in Europe this week, England have dropped out of the top two spots and now trail behind Germany and Italy.

Man City and Arsenal could salvage £30m+ Aston Villa payout

Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Brighton and West Ham remain in European competition this season alongside Villa who are through to the knockout phases of the Europa Conference League.

Villa will hope that English clubs continue to progress in their respective European tournaments to build up their Uefa coefficient.

Tottenham

England currently have 13.88 coefficient points – narrowly behind Germany’s 13.92 and Italy’s 14.71. [As of 16 February]

Each win in the Champions League between the round of 16 and the final is worth one coefficient point.
