Revealed: ‘Huge’ Michael Beale update on Rangers pursuit of Jonathan Panzo

Rangers have scouted Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo on multiple occasions but his big price tag could scupper any potential deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Ibrox manager Michael Beale is a “huge fan” of the 22-year-old, who is currently on loan at Coventry City.

Top English sides are also interested in the centre-back amid uncertainly over whether Forest want to keep him next season.

It is understood Beale wants to bring another central defender into the club with Filip Helander set to leave and John Souttar prone to injury.

Panzo has made 28 appearances for Coventry across all competitions this season and has scored one goal and provided one assist in those outings.

The defender has been impressing at the Championship side since his arrival in July 2022.

Panzo will return to the City Ground at the end of the 2022-23 season.

It is believed Forest would demand a big fee for the young star who is contracted until 2025, which could push him out of budget for the Gers.

The Glasgow club would have to pay a large outlay and convince the defender to move north of the border if they want to lure him to Ibrox in the summer.

The Light Blues do have a big budget for the upcoming window but need to fill multiple positions and are not in a place where they can pay over the odds for one player.

Panzo is one of a number of potential targets and the likelihood of the Light Blues moving onto new players is high as competition for the Under-21 England international heats up.
