Revealed: Major update on Lo Celso’s Tottenham future after injury hell

Tottenham face a big decision on the future of Giovani Lo Celso in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old was the subject of interest from Barcelona and other Spanish sides during the off-season, but a move failed to materialise before the 1 September deadline.

Football Insider also revealed (25 August) that Aston Villa were monitoring Lo Celso during the summer window, but eventually cooled their interest in the Tottenham midfielder.

The Argentina international is yet to get going under Ange Postecoglou, who has had an immediate impact at the North London outfit since his arrival in the off-season.

He is currently out of action with a leg problem he has been nursing since the start of this month – and will miss the derby clash with Arsenal on Sunday (24 September) as a result.

Despite impressing in pre-season, Lo Celso has made just two appearances so far this season – totalling 61 minutes of action.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Villarreal, notching two goals and three assists in 29 outings across all competitions.

He remains under contract at Tottenham until June 2025.

Lo Celso has managed eight goals and six assists in 84 games for Spurs since arriving for a reported fee of £42.3million from Real Betis in 2020.

Summer signing James Maddison looks undroppable in an attacking midfield berth for Tottenham.

The ex-Leicester City star has managed two goals and two assists in five Premier League games this season.

Postecoglou’s side have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 to start the new campaign.
