Revealed: Major update on Man City bid to sign Eberechi Eze
Man City remain interested in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze as a potential alternative to top target Matheus Nunes, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (25 August) that City remain confident of landing Nunes, 24, and are set to return with an offer close to the £60million mark.
Eze is seen as a potential fall-back at the Etihad Stadium – but is likely to cost around £70million.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are in “no need to sell” for anything below that figure in the last week of the summer window.
Palace, who have already fended off interest in Michael Olise this summer, want to keep Eze at the club for at least 12 more months.
It is believed they are confident of keeping hold of the England international past next week’s deadline (1 September).
Man City have targetted midfield reinforcements with Kevin de Bruyne out injured for months and Ilkay Gundogan leaving on a free transfer for Barcelona.
Mateo Kovacic has already arrived from Chelsea this summer but Pep Guardiola is eyeing additional cover in the area.
Eze has played 90 minutes in both Premier League fixtures so far this season.
He notched 10 goals and four assists in 40 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign as Palace recorded a mid-table finish.

The attacking midfielder, who is under contract until June 2025, made his first appearance for England in June after a stellar season.
Man City have won their opening two games against Burnley and Newcastle and face Sheffield United on Sunday (27 August).
