Revealed: Newcastle to open talks over Callum Wilson deal
Newcastle are ready to sit down with striker Callum Wilson to discuss his future this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 31-year-old has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at St James’ Park.
However, a potential extension could be on the agenda during the off-season after Wilson’s crucial goals in the Premier League run-in.
The former Bournemouth striker scored 18 goals and contributed five assists in 31 top-flight appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
That tally is his best-ever in the top tier, beating out his haul of 14 strikes for the Cherries in the 2018-19 season.
Wilson’s goals and flourishing partnership with mega-money signing Alexander Isak helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign.
The England international, who is part of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad for next month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers, is yet to sign a contract extension since joining Newcastle in 2020.
Wilson cost the Magpies a reported £20million – and has gone on to score 38 goals in 82 games for the Tyneside giants.
He earns a reported wage of £46,000-a-week at St James’ Park.
With just 12 months remaining, Newcastle are vulnerable to losing the striker for free – as he can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from January 2024.

Centre-back Fabian Schar is another key man in the same position.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (30 May) that the Magpies are keen to discuss a new contract with Schar in the off-season.
