Revealed: Newcastle United respond to Callum Wilson offer after source’s £60m reveal

Newcastle United have rejected an offer from Atletico Madrid to take Callum Wilson on loan for the remainder of this season, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Spanish side wanted to include an option to buy the 31-year-old in the loan agreement.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Newcastle would require an obligation in any agreement if they are to release Wilson this month.

Atleti are keen to sign the England international this month with star forward Angel Correa set to head out to Saudi Arabia.

It is believed they are unlikely to return with a new offer including an obligation to buy and will therefore move on to other targets.

Sources say a deal for Juventus forward Moises Kean could be more straightforward to reach.

Wilson is just one of several Newcastle players to attract interest this month with clubs aware of the Magpies’ poor financial situation.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (20 January) that Eddie Howe’s side want to raise a minimum of £60million in transfer sales in the near future to help their Financial Fair Play situation.

Wilson has hit eight goals in 20 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

He has missed the Magpies’ last two Premier League games with a calf problem as the injuries mount up for Howe’s side.

Newcastle sit 10th in the top flight after losing their last four league games.
