Revealed: Stoke City submit Dion Sanderson bid after Birmingham City offer tabled – sources

Stoke City have submitted a bid for Wolves defender Dion Sanderson as they rival Birmingham for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.

The centre-back, 23, has spent the last couple of seasons out on loan at Sunderland and Birmingham.

Birmingham have already tabled a bid for Sanderson as they look to make his move permanent.

Stoke have now formally joined the chase for Sanderson as Potters boss Alex Neil looks to bolster his side’s defensive options.

The centre-back’s current contract at Molineux runs until 2025 after he signed an extension back in 2020.

Featuring predominantly for Wolves under-21 side, Sanderson has made one first team appearance during his time at the club.

This season, the defender made 34 appearances across all competitions for Birmingham City, with two goals and one assist in those outings.

Of the 31 Championship appearances he made, Sanderson was in the starting XI for all of them.

The 23-year-old also captained the side in the club’s fourth round FA Cup replay which they ultimately went to lose in extra time.

His loan club Birmingham finished the season 17th in the English Championship, comfortably outside of the relegation zone despite losing four of their final six games.

Sanderson joined Wolves’ under-18 side in 2018 and has spent the majority of his time at the club out on various loans, most recently at Birmingham and QPR.

The defender also spent the first half of the 2021-22 season with Birmingham and the club are now keen to make his latest loan spell permanent.

In other news, Wolves could accept cut-price defender bid from Sheffield United.
