Revealed: Update on Liverpool signing Lavia after new Caicedo twist
Liverpool are set to reignite their move for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia after missing out on Moises Caicedo, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (11 August) that Caicedo’s Anfield move is “100% off” despite a British-record hijack from the Merseysiders.
It is believed the Brighton star is now set to sign for Chelsea after a drawn-out transfer saga which has dominated the summer window.
Both clubs have also lodged their interest in Lavia following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship in May.
It is believed Chelsea cannot be ruled out of the race for the Belgium international despite the imminent arrival of Caicedo.
Liverpool have seen several bids rejected for Lavia this summer – with the last of those offers reportedly totalling a fee of £45million.
Meanwhile, Chelsea also entered the bidding war for the midfield sensation in recent days – with Southampton turning down a reported £48million offer for their star man.
It is believed the south coast club are standing firm on their £50million valuation of Lavia despite their relegation to the Championship.
Lavia didn’t feature in the Saints’ opening day win over Sheffield Wednesday last week (4 August) or in their League Cup loss against Gillingham on Tuesday (8 August).
Speaking on Friday and quoted by the Daily Echo (11 August), Southampton boss Russell Martin confirmed he will also not take part against Norwich this weekend.

The teenager’s current contract at St Mary’s runs until June 2027.
Lavia, who can be bought back by previous club Man City next summer (2023) due to a clause in his contract, made 34 appearances for the Saints across all competitions last term.
In other news, Leeds United could now pay big-money fee for Liverpool star.
