Revealed: West Ham told new Man City asking price for Kalvin Phillips – new details emerge

West Ham United have been told by Man City that they will have to play £40million to make Kalvin Phillips’ loan move permanent, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Citizens intend to recoup most of the £45million they paid Leeds United for the midfielder in the summer of 2022.

Phillips joined the Hammers on loan for the remainder of the season, but his deal does not include an option to buy.

Should David Moyes’ side want to retain the England international after this campaign, they would have to enter fresh negotiations with Man City.

It is believed that the 28-year-old does not feature in Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans and the club will look to get him off their books permanently in the summer.

Phillips made just 31 appearances in all competitions for City and notched his first goal for them in a Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade in mid-December.

The defensive midfielder made his debut for the Irons on Thursday evening (1 February) with a start in their 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

However, he was dispossessed in the box by Cherries ace Ryan Christie in the third minute of his first outing which led to Bournemouth taking an early lead through Dominic Solanke.
