Rico Lewis, Nathan Ake react to Mateo Kovacic’s post amid Man City exit rumours

Mateo Kovacic caught the attention of his teammates on social media as speculation emerges about his future at Man City.

Pep Guardiola‘s side are preparing for a trip down to St Mary’s Stadium, with Southampton up next before Premier League clashes against Bournemouth and Fulham.

There is also a crucial FA Cup final tie coming up against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium, and while the Citizens could still lift silverware, supporters are frustrated by the team’s performances this season.

Due to early knockouts in the Champions League and EFL Cup, many expect a squad overhaul this summer, with Mick Brown telling Football Insider that Kovacic could be one of six first-team stars to depart Man City.

Taking to Instagram (8 May), Kovacic posted a series of images from the training ground alongside the caption: “L2 +,” and a square emoji, referring to the world-famous FIFA and EA FC video games.

Teammates Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis both liked the post, joined by West Ham‘s Emerson Palmieri and Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger.

Man City squad overhaul expected ahead of summer transfer window

Football Insider verdict

Kevin De Bruyne has already confirmed his Man City departure, bringing an end to his decade-long stay with the Citizens, but appears to be going out in style following his recent performances.

This could be just the first of many emotional exits during the summer transfer window, with Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Ederson all possibly joining Kovacic out the exit doors.

Despite such a disappointing season, there is still the potential to lift a trophy and finish second in the Premier League, especially if Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal continue their recent freefall of poor results.

Nevertheless, it might become a more difficult prospect to draw new and exciting talent to Manchester ahead of next season, even with Champions League football almost guaranteed at this point.

Erling Haaland, Omar Marmoush, Phil Foden, and Rodri are all amongst some of the biggest stars in world football, but if City are not careful, the idea of losing them too could also become a reality.
