‘Ridiculous’ Darwin Nunez claim issued by pundit after journalist’s Liverpool reveal
Paul Robinson has claimed the criticism aimed at Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez during pre-season “is ridiculous”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper insisted games during this period are just “fitness exercises.”
Nunez has come under scrutiny for his cameo performances against Man United and Crystal Palace in pre-season.
However, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (20 July), Jurgen Klopp and his staff have been more than satisfied with what they’ve seen from their new striker so far.
Nunez arrived to Anfield in club-record deal from Benfica last month.
The Reds begin their Premier League campaign away to Fulham on 6 August.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the criticism Nunez has received, Robinson said: “It’s ridiculous, managers only use these games as fitness exercises.
“Given the amount of squad rotation you cannot look too much into it. In the next two weeks, we will start to see more.
“It is harsh to criticise player’s performances at this stage, especially one who has just signed for a new club.

“So many subs are made in these pre-season games. There are different formations as well. You cannot read anything into the results or performances at this stage of pre-season.
“The week or two before the start of the season you get an idea but now is far too early, that is for sure.”
