‘We are right up for it’ – Craig Gordon sends Rangers warning ahead of Celtic clash
Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has admitted ahead of the upcoming Old Firm match against Rangers that these are the games that the players want to win more than any other.
As quoted by the Sky Sports website, the Bhoys goalkeeper sent out a warning to Rangers that his team-mates badly want to win the match.
“You can try and say it is like any other game, it is three points, but nobody is going to believe that” he said.
“For the players it is not. I would be lying if I told you any different. It is a big game and we are right up for it.”
Gordon has played in his fair share of Old Firm games, the most recent being the 2-0 win at Ibrox in September, when goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths gave the Bhoys a comfortable victory.
The last meeting between the sides at Celtic Park was a controversial 1-1 draw in March, referee Bobby Madden was the centre of attention after he didn’t award what seemed to a stonewall penalty after a foul on Leigh Griffiths by Clint Hill.
Both teams warmed up for the derby with victories in midweek, Celtic defeating Dundee 2-0 and Rangers defeating Motherwell by the same scoreline, as the gap between the sides remained at 11 points.
The match is the first between the teams since Graeme Murty was appointed Rangers manager until the end of the season, although Murty was in interim charge when the sides faced each other in the aforementioned 1-1 draw last season.
