Rio Ferdinand reacts to Myles Lewis-Skelly’s England feat live from New York bar

Rio Ferdinand took straight to social media immediately to react after Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly marked an England debut to remember.

It has been a remarkable rise for the teenager, who only made his senior debut for Mikel Arteta‘s side earlier this season.

His excellent form has already led to some suggestions that Lewis-Skelly will help save Arsenal “millions” in transfer market.

The 18-year-old’s form has now also earned him a major opportunity on the international stage, and he has wasted no time in making his mark there either.

Myles Lewis-Skelly makes immediate England impact, Rio Ferdinand reacts

In the wake of his immediate impact for the Gunners in the Premier League, Lewis-Skelly was named in new England manager Thomas Tuchel’s first squad for the March international break.

The left-back was then handed his first cap from the start as the Three Lions took on Albania in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Friday night (21 March).

Lewis-Skelly wasted no time in establishing himself on the international stage, breaking in behind the opposition defence to latch onto a through ball from Jude Bellingham.

From there the Arsenal ace then cooly slotted into the back of the net to put England 1-0 up with just 20 minutes on the clock.

In doing so, the teenager became the youngest ever player to score on his senior debut for the Three Lions.

One person who clearly enjoyed that goal was Ferdinand. Taking to X, the former Man United defender posted a video of himself watching that goal from New York bar Smithfield Hall.

Giving his verdict on the strike from Lewis-Skelly, the ex-England international said: “He’s onside, it’s a great finish, what a debut, what a debut!

“I’m so happy for him man, a young England boy doing his thing, making his debut, one game one goal, that’s what it’s about!”

Arsenal ace gets a moment he will never forget

Football Insider Verdict

There have of course been some moments that the young left-back would likely rather forget during the course of his career so far.

Lewis-Skelly was controversially sent off for Arsenal in their win over Wolves last month, and has seen his tendency for a rash tackle questioned at times.

With this goal though he showed no signs of a lack of composure, timing his run perfectly before confidently sliding the ball into the back of the net.

To score just 20 minutes into an England debut is something any young footballer in this country is going to dream about, and Lewis-Skelly has just achieved that feat.

Doing it at just 18-years-old only makes it even more impressive, and so the Arsenal man and all connected with him will doubtless be understandably extremely proud.

Indeed, when he is already reaching these milestones at such an age, it is interesting to wonder exactly what other heights he could reach in his career.
