Rio Ngumoha’s likely Liverpool salary and match bonuses revealed

Liverpool sensation Rio Ngumoha could be set to play a huge role at Anfield after bursting onto the scene this season.

Ngumoha became the fourth-youngest scorer in Premier League history when he bagged the winning goal for Arne Slot’s side against Newcastle United in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Ngumoha has now signed his first professional contract at Liverpool, having turned 17 in August.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Ngumoha will be one of the highest-paid 17-year-old’s in the country after agreeing terms with Liverpool

Rio Ngumoha’s likely Liverpool bonuses revealed

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider the FA should help the likes of Ngumoha manage his finances after penning his first professional deal.

The winger has made five appearances for Liverpool so far this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Ngumoha’s wages, Borson said: “I’d take it with a pinch of salt. I mean, it may be that there is a rule around base salary that says we only ever pay £1,000 a week for a player of 17. That is not impossible.

“He will be getting more than that from a matchday squad fee, particularly because Liverpool are winning most games. A Liverpool win is going to give all of the players in the squad a payment of let’s say £5k a week or £5k per game if you’re in the matchday squad, if you come on, if you start.

“We don’t know the numbers, but it’s that kind of range. Yes, he might only be taking a base salary of £1k or that as I said, I think it’s unlikely, but with bonuses and everything else, rest assured he’d be one of the highest-earning 17-year-old’s in the country.”

Liverpool fans have questioned why Ngumoha’s contract is only three years, but a rule from FIFA’s official rulebook states players under 18 years of age can’t sign longer deals.

Liverpool could be forced to pay Chelsea £7m compensation for Ngumoha

Ngumoha spent eight years in Chelsea’s academy before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2024.

Ngumoha is currently at the centre of a “bitter” legal dispute between the two Premier League sides following his move to Anfield.

The teenager’s case is due to be heard by a tribunal, which will decide how much compensation Liverpool will have to pay Chelsea.

Borson told Football Insider Liverpool could be ordered to pay £7million for Ngumoha.

The Reds were previously forced to pay Fulham up to £4.3m after signing Harvey Elliott in 2019 when he was just 16.
