Riyad Mahrez ‘will make something happen’ after Man City talks reported – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Pep Guardiola will be eager to tie down Riyad Mahrez to a long-term deal at Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender heaped praise on the 31-year-old who will always “make something happen” when he gets the ball.
According to Foot Mercato (27 June), negotiations regarding an extension have advanced recently between Mahrez, 31, and the club.
The winger has one year left on his contract at the Etihad.
Mahrez joined the Cityzens in 2018 and has been a key player for the Premier League champions since.
When asked for his assessment of the latest, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’s a great player.
“I don’t want to say he goes under the radar because he doesn’t – we’ve seen that with his assists and goals but because they have such big names within that squad, Jack [Grealish], [Phil] Foden, and [Erling] Haaland now, Mahrez is a player who maybe flies under the radar ever so slightly but he always produces the goods and you don’t normally get that with wingers.

“Sometimes they flow in and out of play and you maybe see them do a little bit of magic and then nothing for another 20 minutes, he’s not like that. Whenever he gets the ball, he’ll make something happen.
“So of course Pep would want to sign him to a new long-term deal, they paid a lot of money for him but he’s producing as well.“
