Robbie Fowler delivers verdict on Liverpool signing, makes dig at Chelsea
By Derek Smithson
Robbie Fowler is expecting Mohamed Salah to shine for Liverpool in the new season following his summer arrival and believes that he was not given a “real chance” during his time with Chelsea.
The 25-year-old winger completed his move to the Merseyside club this summer and has already settled into the squad well during pre-season.
He is hoping to prove some doubters wrong in England as he makes his second attempt to impress in the Premier League.
Salah was previously on the books at Chelsea, but managed 19 appearances for them and scored two goals in return.
However, he is now back in English football with Liverpool and the wide man is set to play an important role for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Ex-Reds striker Fowler believes that Salah will be a big success at his new club and stated that he has looked good during pre-season matches.
“I saw Mo Salah quite a bit in Hong Kong and I think he will be a decent player this season,” Fowler wrote in the Mirror. “Salah had his problems at Chelsea, but I don’t think he got a real chance.
“He will at Anfield, and he is quick and knows where the goal is.”
Salah is renowned for his blistering pace and is set to rival the likes of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Ben Woodburn for a starting position at Anfield.
The Egypt international has returned to the Premier League after a successful spell with Italian giants Roma, where he proved that he can be a great goal threat from the wide area.
He made 83 appearances for Roma during his two years with them, scoring 34 goals and supplying 24 assists.
Salah’s incredible work-rate should lend itself well to the style of manage Jurgen Klopp and his pace will ask serious questions of defences.
Chelsea fans have seen Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku become stars following their departures from Stamford Bridge, something Liverpool will hope Salah can go on to emulate.
In other Liverpool news, Jamie Carragher believes the club’s 25-year-old has no future at Anfield.
