Robby McCrorie misled over Rangers future after deal agreed – expert

Robby McCrorie was misled into thinking he would be Rangers number one next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said McCrorie will have thought his opportunity between the sticks at the end of 2022-23 campaign was preparing him for next year’s campaign.

The 25-year-old made four appearances for the Light Blues this season and kept three clean sheets in those outings.

The keeper’s current contract at Ibrox runs until 2025 after he signed an extension last October.

The Glasgow giants have lost their number one shot-stopper Allan McGregor following the expiration of his contract this summer.

Earlier this month (6 June), the Gers confirmed the signing of former England international Jack Butland from Crystal Palace.

Butland put pen to paper on a four-year deal following the expiration of his contract with the Premier League side.

Hutton insisted McCrorie is right to feel hard done by with Butland’s arrival.

You can’t help but feel sorry for him,” he told Football Insider.

Rangers

McCrorie was in goals for the end of the season, he probably thought the manager was having a look at him for next season. To then go and get Butland, you wonder how he is feeling.

Probably in the back of his mind he was thinking he had a good opportunity to be number one and it has not quite worked out. You do have to feel sorry for him.

In other news, star striker could leave Rangers as two forward signings on the cards.
