Robby McCrorie raves about three Rangers Academy team-mates

Rangers youth goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has been raving about three of his Academy team-mates after signing a new long-term deal with the Ibrox giants.

McCrorie joined his brother Ross in penning a new four-and-a-half year contract to keep him tied to the Gers until 2022 on Friday.

The 19-year-old is on a season-long loan deal with League One Berwick Rangers as he continues his development with regular first-team football.

McCrorie believes the new deals for him and his twin brother are a “testament” to the work being done at the club’s Academy and picked out three Academy graduates who have been doing “really well” with the first-team.

“It’s testament to the Academy. Not just for goalkeepers, but you see my brother is playing and doing really well, and you also have Ryan Hardie and Jamie Barjonas,” McCrorie said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“There are a lot of young players getting a chance now. And in terms of goalkeepers, Allan McGregor was the top man and hopefully I can follow in his footsteps.”

Both Robby and Ross have come through the club’s Academy and were standouts in Graeme Murty’s squad last term as they reached the final of the Scottish FA Youth Cup before losing to Celtic.

Despite currently being on loan with the only English club in Scottish football, Robby will be hoping to comeback to Ibrox next term and line-up alongside his brother in the first-team andbecome the first set of twins since Frank and Ronald de Boer to play together for the Ibrox giants.

McCrorie is yet to make his first-team debut for the Gers but has been first-choice at Shielfield for Berwick Rangers so far this season.
