Robert Lewandowski cited after Sky’s Man City striker reveal – pundit
Frank McAvennie has insisted Bayern Munich won’t want to sign Man City striker Julian Alvarez.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Bayern are looking for their next Robert Lewandwoski and insisted Alvarez does not fit the bill.
The German giants lost their star striker to Barcelona last summer and have struggled to find an adequate replacement within their squad.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg (23 May), Alvarez is on Bayern’s list of potential targets ahead of the summer window.
The 23-year-old’s current contract at the Etihad runs until 2028 but he has struggled for game time behind goal scorer Erling Haaland and his future in Manchester is uncertain as a result.
When asked if Alvarez could be tempted by a move to the Bundesliga winners, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Alvarez is not a bad player but is he going to go in and take over from Lewandowski.
“That is who they are looking to replace and Alvarez is not that kind of player. I do not think that would happen.
“Bayern are on the way down at the moment so they have got to buy someone who is going to score goals. They need someone to give them 25 goals per season and I do not think Alvarez will be that kind of player.“

Borussia Dortmund took the title race down to the final day of the German top flight season and only needed a win against Mainz to end Bayern’s ten-year title run.
Despite coming back from 2-0 down to win 2-2, Bayern’s win over Koln secured their 11th consecutive league title.
