Robert Sanchez and Pedro Neto respond to Levi Colwill’s ‘incredible’ Chelsea message
Levi Colwill reflected on the “best possible end” to Chelsea’s season after their success in the Club World Cup final.
Chelsea will return to Stamford Bridge as FIFA’s new world club champions after Enzo Maresca picked up the second trophy of his first season in charge, following their victory in May’s Conference League final.
Maresca’s side were firm underdogs against a PSG team who won the Champions League final by a 5-0 scoreline and had won 4-0 against Atletico Madrid, Inter Miami and Real Madrid at the Club World Cup.
However, Chelsea produced one of the best performances of Maresca’s reign to shock PSG and raced into a 3-0 lead before half-time; a lead which they never relinquished to record a dominant victory.

Colwill congratulates Chelsea on ‘incredible’ season
Chelsea’s expensively-assembled squad grew size during the Club World Cup, with Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens signed from Brighton and Borussia Dortmund respectively for a combined £105million.
Pedro’s arrival was perfectly timed with both goals in their semi-final victory over Fluminense and the clincher in Sunday’s final against PSG, after Cole Palmer’s brace had put the Blues 2-0 up in half an hour.
Further back, Colwill was a constant in Maresca’s side and started five of their seven matches in the Club World Cup, and he posted on Instagram (14 July) with a message for Chelsea fans after their victory.
Colwill started next to fellow academy product Trevoh Chalobah at the back, and his message said: “a season that ends in the best possible way. Congrats to everyone and thank you all for the incredible support”.
Several Chelsea players liked Colwill’s post, while both Pedro Neto and Robert Sanchez left the identical comment of; “What a player”.
Chelsea changes afoot after Club World Cup victory
Football Insider Verdict
The Blues made no secret of their ability to spend the money earned by their progress in the Club World Cup, with both Pedro and Gittens’ signatures sealed mid-tournament and paid for with each passing win.
Chelsea earned over £80m alone from reaching the decider itself with an even greater windfall set to follow, and Maresca will be keen to add to their summer spending of over £200m as soon as possible.
Several Chelsea players have made clear that their Conference League and Club World Cup success is just a start, and with further spending on the way, expect the Blues to be serious contenders on multiple fronts next season.
