‘Roberto De Zerbi stance emerges as Tottenham eye approach’

Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly emerged as a potential candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, but the former Brighton boss will only join if the conditions are right.

It has been heavily rumoured for a number of months that Postecoglou is under pressure at Spur, and the Australian could be on his way at the end of the season.

Tottenham have had a dismal domestic campaign, and sit 16th in the table having lost their last four league games.

However, the North London side still have a chance to save their season, after beating Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-final.

Tottenham will face fellow Premier League strugglers Manchester United in the final, with both teams desperate to end their awful campaigns on a positive note.

De Zerbi requires Champions League

De Zerbi is currently in charge of Marseille in France and has guided his side to second in Ligue 1 with just two games remaining.

The 45-year-old has had ambitions of managing in the Champions League and looks set to achieve his goal with the French side.

According to reports in Gianluca Di Marzio (8 May), De Zerbi wants to stay at Marseille for their European campaign, rather than moving to Spurs.

However, Tottenham still have a chance of reaching the top table of European football themselves, with a Champions League place going to the winner of the Europa League.

If Spurs were to win the final, then former Brighton boss De Zerbi would be able to move to North London and still realise his career ambitions.

Silva still Tottenham’s first choice

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Marco Silva is open to the Tottenham job if Postecoglou departs at the end of the season.

Silva is still the favourite for the position and Daniel Levy is believed to be a big admirer of his work at Fulham.

Since taking over at Craven Cottage in 2021, the Portuguese manager has guided Fulham back up into the Premier League at the first time of asking and consolidated their position in the top flight.

The Cottagers still even have a chance of European football next season, sitting 11th in the Premier League, and just two points off a Europa Conference League spot.

If Tottenham are beaten by Manchester United in the Europa League final, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Postecoglou replaced by Silva.
