Robinson backs call for inquiry after Jurgen Klopp controversy at Liverpool

Paul Robinson has called for managers to set a better example after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was sent off against Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said managers “have a responsibility to control their players and themselves.”

Klopp was sent off for his reaction to Bernardo Silva’s challenge on Mohamed Salah in the second half of Liverpool’s 1-0 win over City.

Speaking post-match, the Reds boss admitted that he was probably deserving of the red card from referee Anthony Taylor.

As reported by the BBC (17 October), the incident has sparked a leading referees’ charity to call for an inquiry into the touchline behaviour of managers.

Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy claimed “people mimic what they see on TV.”

When asked by Football Insider if change was needed, Robinson said: “Managers and footballers need to set a better example.

“The game is viewed by billions of people all over the world. It is about setting an example for youngsters. The managers have a responsibility to control their players and themselves. We are seeing it too often this season. There is at least one manager sent off every week at the moment. It is something that has to get better.”
