Robinson baffled as West Brom seal fourth summer signing

Paul Robinson is baffled by West Brom signing Jordan Hugill from Norwich on a season-long loan deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one questioned where the 29-year-old would fit in at The Hawthorns.

West Brom confirmed the capture of Hugill on loan on Wednesday.

He becomes Valerien Ismael’s fourth signing of the window following the arrivals of Adam Reach, Alex Mowatt and Matt Clarke.

Hugill has struggled for game time since signing for Norwich from West Ham in August 2020 and featured predominantly as a substitute last season.

Ismael will hope the centre-forward can rediscover the form he showed at QPR in the 2019-20 campaign where he netted 15 times in 41 appearances.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Hugill’s arrival, Robinson said: “I’m not sure about this one if I’m honest.

“Does he fit into that team? They play with a three up top and the front three that they have got is strong.

“Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant have been especially good this season. They’ve been brilliant so far. I cannot see Hugill getting in ahead of either of those two at the moment.

“Ismael probably sees him as cover more than anything else.”

Speaking to club media after signing, Hugill said: “I’m delighted to be here and I want to help the club push for their targets.

“You look at the players in the squad and there’s so much talent and experience.”

In other news, Kevin Campbell claims this may be secret behind Grant’s ‘transformation’ at West Brom.
