Robinson can’t believe journalist’s ‘supremely confident’ Newcastle takeover update

Paul Robinson has told Newcastle United fans to take the latest takeover developments with a pinch of salt.

The former Tottenham stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest takeover reports.

North East journalist Liam Kennedy reported on 6 September that sources close to the Reuben brothers are ‘supremely confident’ the takeover will go through.

The Reubens fronted the Saudi Investment Fund’s proposed takeover of the club along with Amanda Staveley.

In July, it was revealed the club’s arbitration hearings against the Premier League have been kicked down the road until early 2022.

The takeover attempt has gone on for well over a year with the PIF taking various legal routes to force through a decision.

Robinson insists nothing has changed after Kennedy’s update and told Newcastle fans to stay cautious.

“It’s got to a point where you only believe it when they are in the stadium holding the shirt,” Robinson told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“There has been so much talk about takeover and promises and x amount of millions being given.

“Until there is a brand new owner with the shirt telling the fans how much money he’s going to spend on the squad it’s not happening.

“You have to take everything here with a pinch of salt. It’s been going on for far too long.”
