Robinson can’t believe ‘very unusual’ Liverpool situation after Ornstein’s Henderson update
Paul Robinson is baffled Liverpool ever thought twice about handing Jordan Henderson a new long-term contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed the situation which unfolded in the media last month was “very unusual”.
It was widely reported earlier this summer that the 31-year-old’s future at Anfield was up in the air following little progress in contract talks.

However, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed on August 16th that the Reds captain now has agreement in principle with the club over a new deal.
Henderson is set to sign a three-year deal with the option of a fourth dependant on how many games he plays up to then.
He has two years left on his current deal.
When asked by Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said:
“I just cannot understand why there was any doubt in the first place over his contract. It was very unusual that that situation arose.
“Obviously he is going to be asked to play a lot more this year without Georginio Wijnaldum there.
“It would be very smart business by Liverpool and for me there was never another option. I cannot understand why they would ever think twice about giving him a three, four year contract.”

Henderson moved to Anfield from Sunderland in a £16million deal in July 2011.
He has made 393 appearances for the Reds since.
