Robinson digs at Sanchez after ‘surprising’ Tottenham news confirmed
Paul Robinson “is surprised” by Tottenham manager Antonio Conte’s decision to name Davinson Sanchez in the starting XI at Burnley.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one is baffled by the 25-year-old’s inclusion after a “poor” performance in the Europa Conference League.
Sanchez had a night to forget on Thursday as Spurs lost to 2-1 to Slovenian side FC Mura.
Conte was so appalled by his players’ performance he refused to enter the dressing room to speak to them at full time.
However, as confirmed on Twitter, Sanchez retained his place in the starting XI for Sunday’s trip to Turf Moor.
The game was later postponed because of heavy snowfall and will be rearranged for a later date.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the team news, Robinson said:
“In all honesty, I was surprised by Sanchez’s inclusion in the team after his performance against Mura.
“He was poor. There was not many Spurs players who can say they played well on Thursday.
“Whoever played this weekend was coming off the back of a very difficult performance in midweek.
“They would have hoped to have bounced back straight away but they will have to wait a bit longer now.”

Sanchez has made 11 appearances this season but only four of those have been Premier League starts.
He has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract in north London.
In other news, what Conte made his Tottenham players do after the Burnley game was called off can be revealed.
