Robinson hails ‘brilliant’ Thiago and one other Liverpool star after ‘incredible’ reveal
Paul Robinson has heaped praise on “incredible” Liverpool duo Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England number one claimed the Reds need to keep the duo fit if they’re to challenge for the title.
As revealed by the Independent, via Anfield Watch (November 29th), Liverpool are unbeaten when Thiago has partnered Fabinho in midfield.
The duo have started Liverpool’s previous two Premier League fixtures – both of which finished 4-0.
Injuries have prevented the centre-midfielders from starting together regularly over the past 18 months.
When asked by Football Insider if keeping the duo fit is the key to Liverpool’s title challenge, Robinson said:
“It’s an incredible stat but the key to Liverpool’s title challenge is how they do when Salah and Mane go to the African Cup of Nations.
“If they are there or thereabouts at the beginning of February, when those players come back, they are in with a real chance.
“Fabinho and Thiago are finally playing together regularly. Thiago is reaching the level that we knew he had in him. He is producing consistently now. The two of them together have been brilliant.
“[Jordan] Henderson, [James] Milner and [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain cannot play every single game. Klopp needs Thiago and Fabinho to stay fit.”
Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Goodison Park on Wednesday night for the first Merseyside derby of the season.
The Reds sit third in the Premier League table.
