Robinson hails Defoe after ‘incredible’ Rangers behind-the-scenes footage emerges

Paul Robinson has hailed Jermain Defoe’s “infectious” character after Rangers secured their 55th top-flight title.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England goalkeeper claimed it is “incredible” to see his former teammate win his first league title at the age of 38.

Celtic’s 0-0 draw at Dundee United on Sunday crowned the Light Blues the Scottish Premiership champions for the first time since 2011.

Footage later emerged on Rangers TV of Defoe looking overwhelmed when speaking about the triumph.

The English striker claimed his aspiration to win a league title is what has kept him motivated throughout his phenomenal 20-year career.

When asked for his thoughts on his friend’s success, Robinson told Football Insider: “It is incredible to see him get a title at this stage of his career.

“I played with Jermain for quite a bit of my career, I spent a lot of time with him for club and country and let me tell you, he is an infectious character.

“I know he will be loving life up there at the moment. I am sure Steven will be doing everything he can to keep him there for another year after what they have just achieved.”

Football Insider revealed last month that Defoe may leave Ibrox when his contract expires at the end of the season, unless he agrees to a wage cut.

His 65 career appearances for the Gers have yielded 29 goals and 10 assists.
