Robinson hails Tottenham after Steven Bergwijn reveal via Sky – ‘it’s a brilliant deal’

Paul Robinson has applauded Tottenham for sealing “a brilliant deal” with Ajax to sell Steven Bergwijn.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one heaped praise on Bergwijn, 24, who he claimed was “unlucky” in north London.

On Friday (8 July), Tottenham confirmed Bergwijn has completed a permanent move to Ajax.

According to Sky Sports, the Dutch champions agreed a £26.4million fee with Spurs for the winger after seeing an initial bid of £20million rejected.

The Netherlands international has put pen to paper on a five-year contract in Amsterdam.

Tottenham signed Bergwijn in a £27million deal from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020.

When asked if he was surprised to see Spurs recoup the money paid for the forward, Robinson told Football Insider: “It is a brilliant deal for Spurs, money-wise.

“Bergwijn was always going to go.

“I really rate him. I think he is a top player.

“I’m sure he will go to Ajax and show just what a talented player he is playing week in, week out. We will see the reason why Spurs bought him in the first place.

“I don’t think it will be long before we see him in the Premier League again. Another club will probably look to bring him back over after a couple of seasons.

“He was just unlucky at Spurs. He was always a player that I liked.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Tottenham have just sparked a deluge of ‘sales’ amid a ‘god-like’ Son Heung-min claim.
