Pundit: Alex Iwobi is Everton’s ‘best player’ and deserves offer

Paul Robinson has claimed Alex Iwobi is “thoroughly deserving” of a new bumper deal at Everton.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 26-year-old has been “the standout player during a difficult time” at Goodison Park.

Iwobi has just over 18 months remaining on his contract on Merseyside.

As reported by the Daily Mail (25 November), the midfielder is set for a “huge pay rise” after an impressive start to the season for Frank Lampard’s side.

The Nigeria international is said to be on the brink of penning a new £100,000-a-week deal.

When asked by Football Insider if Iwobi was deserving of the bumper new deal, Robinson said: “100 per cent.

“He has been the standout player during a difficult time at Everton.

“It was difficult situation at Bournemouth. His shirt got thrown back by the crowd but I do not think that is a reflection of how the fans feel about him. It was more about that performance from the team.

“Iwobi has shown his quality this season. He has improved a lot under Frank Lampard.

“A new contract and a pay increase would be thoroughly deserved. He has been their best player this season.”
