Robinson issues ‘harsh’ Man City verdict after Jack Grealish quotes emerge – ‘it’s uncalled for’

Paul Robinson has applauded Man City manager Pep Guardiola for his “brilliant” man-management of Jack Grealish.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Guardiola’s faith in the 27-year-old paid dividends in the Manchester derby.

Grealish impressed for the Premier League champions in a 6-3 win over Man United on Sunday (2 October).

Speaking to club media prior to the derby (28 September), the attacking midfielder thanked his “brilliant” manager for continuing to give him opportunities.

He insisted that the best Jack Grealish is yet to come.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Guardiola’s management of Grealish over the past 12 months, Robinson said: “Grealish will come under criticism unless he is a 9 out of 10 every week.

“That is what comes with that kind of a price tag.

“He is a quality footballer. If he falls short people are quick to jump on his back because of the type of character that he is. That is the nature of the sport we play in. It has been uncalled for at times. It has been harsh.

“Don’t get me wrong though, there is more to come.

“You have to take your hat off to Guardiola because he has stuck with him and it is paying dividends. It must give Jack Grealish so much confidence. Guardiola’s man-management has been nothing short of brilliant.”
