Robinson issues ‘huge’ Son Heung-min verdict after what he’s spotted at Tottenham

Paul Robinson has claimed “it is a huge positive” for Tottenham to score four goals in a game where Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were not at the races.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Kane, 29, and Son, 30, had “a quiet day” against Southampton on Saturday.

Spurs won 4-1 in their first game of the new Premier League campaign.

Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Dejan Kulusevski and an own goal from Mohammed Salisu helped the hosts to victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

No strike partnership in Premier League history has combined more than Kane and Son, who scored 17 and 23 league goals respectively last season.

When asked by Football Insider if Spurs are no longer reliant on the duo for goals, Robinson said: “Neither Kane nor Son were at their best at the weekend.

“It is a huge positive that the team scored four without them chipping in.

“Of course, it is not a positive that those two weren’t at their best but it’s good to see that the team is not so reliant on them for goals anymore. They had a quiet day.

“They looked a little bit off it for me. I don’t think they’re up to match pace. Spurs still scored four though.

“From those two, you know what you are going to get. Their figures over the last four seasons are brilliant. They speak for themselves.
