Robinson issues ‘huge’ Tottenham verdict after another signing sealed – ‘this is unheard of’

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Tottenham for acting early in the transfer market this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said it is “a mystery” as to why the club have left deals until the end of the window in previous years.

On Friday (1 July), Spurs announced the signing of Richarlison on a five-year contract from Everton.

The Brazil international is Tottenham’s fourth senior arrival of the window.

Deals for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma have already been completed.

Robinson claimed it is “huge” that the club have acted swiftly.

“This is unheard of really,” he told Football Insider.

“It shows that the manager is getting his way. He is being allowed to make the signings he wants to make.

“Conte will want these players in before pre-season. Pre-season starts on Monday so this is huge.

“It takes time for players to bed in. Conte will want them used to what he wants by the first game of the season.

“It has always been a mystery to me as to why Spurs and other clubs leave their deals to the last day of the window. I know you can get a good price but if you sign a player on the last day of the window they have missed four games of the season already.

“The manager is making huge changes to this squad. He has been allowed to do it.

“They are giving him a full pre-season to work with the manager. This will allow the new signings to hit the ground running.”
