Robinson issues ‘unthinkable’ Everton claim after latest on Frank Lampard’s future
Paul Robinson has urged Everton to stick with Frank Lampard despite the fact the club are in a “perilous” position.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one abdicated Lampard of blame and said the Toffees are simply “lacking a goalscorer”.
Everton are just one point above the relegation zone following a 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day.
It was the Merseyside club’s fourth consecutive league defeat.
The Daily Mail‘s Adam Sherigold suggested (29 December) owner Farhad Moshiri will now be considering his options.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Lampard’s position, Robinson said: “Everton are in a perilous position.
“We are in uncharted territory this season because of the World Cup. It almost feels like we are starting again. We have only have 15 games of the season though.
“Losing to Wolves is not great, it’s made the situation worse than it perhaps seems. There is bright lights for Everton. Idrissa Gueye and [Amadou] Onana have been very good.
“They are just lacking a goalscorer. I cannot see what another manager would get out of those players. Lampard is doing as well as he could without a number nine.
“They played well against Wolves. They created chances but did not convert them. It is about getting in a good striker.

“I’d question the decision if they sacked Lampard now. I understand that relegation is a real possibility but Lampard has proven he can get them out of this kind of position.
“It’s almost unthinkable for Everton to move into a new stadium in the Championship.”
