Robinson names the ‘big three’ players West Brom must keep this summer
Matheus Pereira, Sam Johnstone and Kyle Bartley are the three players West Brom must keep hold of this summer, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Albion could tumble down the leagues like Sunderland if they lose key personnel ahead of next season.
West Brom’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday and questions are now being asked about the future of Sam Allardyce and a number of the club’s players.
According to reports, Pereira is a target for Leeds, Bartley for Newcastle and goalkeeper Johnstone for Manchester United, Tottenham and West Ham.
Robinson claimed it would be a “huge bonus” if the club re-signed loan star Okay Yokuslu while keeping the aforementioned trio.
“It is vitally important they keep Pereira given what he did in the Championship last time,” he told Football Insider.
“It is important they keep the whole nucleus of the squad together because when you look at their form over the last few months, they have improved a lot. You could argue they would not have gone down if they performed like this for the whole season.
“Pereira, Sam Johnstone and Kyle Bartley are the big three the need to keep.
“Then if they can somehow convince Yokuslu to re-sign and play Championship football, that would be a huge bonus. There is a great nucleus of a squad there.
“They need to bounce back straight away. Look at what happened to Leeds United, Sunderland and now look at Sheffield Wednesday.”
