Robinson on ‘the last thing’ Liverpool need after Fabio Carvalho injury update

Paul Robinson has claimed an injury to Fabio Carvalho is “the last thing” Liverpool need.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one heaped praise on the 20-year-old for his “really promising start” to life at Anfield.

Carvalho was replaced by Roberto Firmino at half time on Saturday as the Reds shared a goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park.

Jurgen Klopp made the substitution after Carvalho suffered a dead leg from Amadou Onana’s late challenge.

Speaking to club media (3 September), Klopp said the injury sustained by Carvalho was “very painful”.

He added that the problem left the attacking midfielder unable to bend his knee.

The Reds are currently without midfielders Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones.

When asked by Football Insider how big a blow it would be for the Reds to lose Carvalho ahead of the trip to Napoli, Robinson said: “Carvalho has made a really promising start.

“The fact that Klopp is willing to start him in a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park says a lot.

“Liverpool have got such a big injury list still, the last thing they need is Carvalho being out.

“Henderson missed the weekend. Keita and Thiago are still injured.

“Klopp will be desperate to get some of these midfielders back because they are down to the bare bones right now.”
