Robinson reveals real reason Burnley v Tottenham called off after ‘speaking to club officials’

Burnley’s game against Tottenham was called off because officials had concerns over player safety and the visibility of pitch lines.

That is according to ex-Spurs and Burnley goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after attending Sunday’s postponed fixture at Turf Moor.

Tottenham’s fixture against Sean Dyche’s side was called off after heavy snowfall.

On Sunday, Antonio Conte told club media he was “really disappointed” that the game was postponement.

However, the Italian manager insisted the officials were right in their decision.

When asked by Football Insider for his insight on the events that unfolded, Robinson said: “I was at the game.

“The problem was, every time they cleared the pitch it came down again.

“Speaking to the officials and people high up at the club, there was concerns about the players’ safety. The conditions meant you could not see the lines. There was an issue with VAR and the Hawk Eye systems not being able to work without the lines being cleared.

“I cannot understand why the game wasn’t delayed for a couple of hours though. I stayed at the stadium for an hour or so after the game had been cancelled and the snowfall pretty much stopped. Nobody would have had an issue if the kick off was at 4pm.

“I don’t understand the logistics of delaying a game that long though. You think the game could have been delayed but having been at the stadium I understand why it was called off. It was particularly bad.

“The pitch was definitely not playable at the time though.”
