Robinson salutes Liverpool chiefs after ‘massive’ Alisson news via BBC

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on the Liverpool hierarchy for being proactive regarding Alisson Becker’s contract renewal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one claimed “it is a really clever move” to engage in talks with the 28-year-old over his future.

Alisson still has three years remaining on the six-year contract he penned upon his arrival from AS Roma in 2018.

According to the BBC, the Reds intend to open talks over a new deal with the goalkeeper when he returns to Anfield after the summer.

The Brazil international has enjoyed great success since joining Jurgen Klopp’s side and has won both the Champions League and Premier League.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the planned talks, Robinson said: “To get Alisson tied down to a new deal would be massive.

“The impact he has had along with Van Dijk has been immeasurable.

“We have seen lots of clubs allow their players contracts to run down to the last 12, 18 months and I can never understand why clubs do it to top players.

“Liverpool’s success has been built on clean sheets and Alisson has been vital to that. They have had such defensive solidity since Alisson and Van Dijk have come in.

“Reward him with a longer contract and a bigger salary or bigger bonuses.

“It is refreshing to see the powers that be at Liverpool being proactive with his contract. It is a really clever move if you ask me.”
