Robinson ‘surprised’ by Man City transfer policy after Sky update

Paul Robinson is “surprised” to see Man City selling to their rivals Chelsea and Arsenal in this transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Leeds United number one suggested Pep Guardiola’s side could live to regret their decisions next season.

The Premier League champions have already sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea this summer.

According to Sky Sports (18 July), Oleksandr Zinchenko could also be joining a so-called ‘Big Six’ side by the end of this week.

Arsenal are said to be confident of wrapping up a £30million deal for the versatile left-footer, who has two years remaining on his contract at the Etihad.

When asked by Football Insider for on the latest of City’s transfer dealings, Robinson said: Arsenal are spending a fair amount of money but they are getting a top player.

I’m surprised that Man City do not see Arsenal as a direct rival. To sell Jesus and Zinchenko, two players who have more than played their part in recent years, to a side that is knocking on the door of the top four is interesting.

But they are clearly not worried about strengthening Arsenal. They have done the same with allowing Sterling to go to Chelsea. They obviously feel like they are strong enough to cope without them.

You wouldn’t expect them to do business with teams that are trying to rival them.”
