Robinson: This is where ‘the blame lies’ at Liverpool as Joe Gomez footage analysed

Paul Robinson has pointed the finger at Joe Gomez after Liverpool lost to Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one insisted no blame should be shouldered by Alisson Becker for Leeds’ opening goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side gifted Rodrigo Moreno a goal after just four minutes of the Premier League clash at Anfield.

As shown on Sky Sports (29 October), Gomez misplaced a back-pass to Alisson, who slipped when trying to change his course of direction.

The incident was one of 25 occasions in which Gomez lost possession against Leeds. (SofaScore)

When asked by Football Insider for a goalkeeper’s perspective on Rodrigo’s goal, Robinson said: “There is only one thing wrong with that goal, Gomez did not look.

“Alisson was in the right position. As a goalkeeper, you are now told to give your centre-backs an angle when they are in trouble. Alisson did the right thing by making an angle for his centre-half who was in trouble. He offered an outlet ball.

“Gomez presumed his goalkeeper was in the middle of the goal without looking. The blame lies with Joe Gomez.

“You cannot blame Alisson at all. They will have practised this 100 times in training.”
