Robinson thrilled by update on ‘perfect’ Wilder landing West Brom job

Paul Robinson has claimed Chris Wilder is the “perfect choice” to succeed Sam Allardyce at West Brom.

The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant the 53-year-old would take the Baggies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Albion are on the hunt for a new manager again after Allardyce stepped down from the position after Sunday’s 3-1 loss at Leeds United.

Football Insider understands ex-Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder is the leading contender to take over at The Hawthorns.

Interestingly, sporting director Luke Dowling has already spoken to Wilder about the possibility of managing Albion.

He approached Wilder in the summer of 2019 shortly before Slaven Bilic was appointed.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the vacant position, Robinson said: “You know what you are going to get with Chris Wilder.

“The players will want to play for him and they will work their socks off. They will play in a certain way and I think that will give West Brom their best opportunity of bouncing back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

“We have all seen what can happen when you don’t come back up after the first season or two. It can have terrible consequences. You just have to look at what has happened to Sunderland.

“It is critical they get the next appointment right. Chris Wilder is the perfect choice. I think he could bring them straight back.”

In other news, an ex-striker has labelled Sam Allardyce ‘disrespectful’ after his West Brom confession.
