Robinson worried by what he spotted on Liverpool bench

Paul Robinson has claimed Man City have a stronger squad than Liverpool this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Liverpool’s bench “looked weak” against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Reds’ continued their poor start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw with Patrick Vieira’s side at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp named four players under the age of 21 on his bench on Monday following a number of injuries to key players this month.

Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Joel Matip, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher are all sidelined.

Darwin Nunez will also be suspended for the next three Premier League fixtures – Man United, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the Liverpool’s current squad depth, Robinson said: “Man City have a far stronger squad, without a doubt.

“Liverpool’s bench looked weak against Palace.

“Pep Guardiola has two players for every position in that squad and in some positions he has three. City’s squad is notably stronger than Liverpool’s.

“Liverpool’s starting XI is strong but they have a huge injury list at the moment. It is a bit unfair to compare the available squads.

“But taking it on face value now, there is a real difference between the two.”
