Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has said that captain Scott Brown will go down in history as one of the club’s greatest ever captains.

The Hoops boss has commended the 32-year-old for his efforts and has said that the skipper will be playing for the Scottish champions for years to come in a strong statement about his future at Parkhead.

Key Bhoys player Brown has spent a decade with the club and his manager believes the midfielder’s performance during the previous season will make him a legend at the club.

The Daily Record quoted the former Liverpool boss as saying: “Scott’s someone I want here while I’m here, that’s for sure. He’s a remarkable player who will go down as one of the greatest captains in the club’s history.

“He’s done it over the course of 10 years here but what he did last season puts him alongside the greatest captains.

“He’ll be around for another few years just yet.”

Rodgers made it clear during the interview that he was ready to offer the Scotland international a new deal with the club as his contract with the Bhoys comes to a close at the end of next season.

As the skipper enters his testimonial season, the Invincibles manager said: “Scott’s still hungry and driven to keep winning and performing. You see the level he’s at. He has turned 32 but is coming in to an exciting period in his career.

“He’s definitely someone I’ll be looking to do something with. Him and I have talked about it a few times.”

The midfielder moved to Parkhead from Hibernian back in 2007 in a deal worth nearly £6million, and has since made an incredible impact at the Glaswegian club.

Since putting on the Celtic jersey, Brown has made a total of 416 appearances throughout all competitions, where he has scored 37 goals and provided 55 assists for the club.

In addition to his staggering amount of appearances, the skipper has won a stunning 13 trophies during his decade-long stint at the club, and three of those were lifted last season.

Leading his fellow team mates to win the domestic treble will no doubt see the 32-year-old be remembered as a Celtic great and Rodgers believes he has been an inspiration to the club.

The boss was quoted in the Daily Record saying: “He has been a truly inspirational player, and a brilliant player, as well as the club captain.”
