Rodrigo Bentancur: Insider tips first start for Tottenham signing after ‘very impressive’ debut

Rodrigo Bentancur could be handed a first Tottenham start this week after impressing against Brighton in the FA Cup.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Monday (31 January) Tottenham announced the permanent signing of Bentancur, 24, from Juventus.

He came on as a second-half substitute as Tottenham beat Brighton 3-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday (5 January).

Wenham was left impressed and predicts Spurs fans will see plenty of their new signing week as the club face Southampton and Wolves.

“I thought Bentancur was very, very impressive,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s not afraid to hold the ball and relay possession.

“He does look, and I know he only played half an hour, but it looks like he will be ready to be in the starting side on a regular basis quite soon.

“He’s 24 and vastly experienced. Multiple Uruguay caps, loads of appearances for Juventus, he’s used to winning.

“I think he can bring a real stability to our midfield and that’s important to how Conte wants to play.

“So hopefully we will see more of him this week and I can maybe see a first start against Southampton or Wolves.”

Bentancur left Juventus after making 181 appearances for the club.
